MINI manufactures unique cars. But although these machines differ in a number of ways, they still need regular oil changes just like any other vehicle.
Below are a few ways to know if your MINI needs an oil change. And when it does, you can count on the technicians at MINI of Madison to provide the professional service you and your MINI deserve.
Every 3,000 to 10,000 miles
It’s recommended that don’t go any further than 10,000 miles between synthetic oil changes, much like any other type of car. When you receive an oil change at MINI of Madison, we’ll place a mileage sticker on your windshield to help you keep track of the miles you’ve driven since your last service. We’ll also make sure to use the proper type of oil for your MINI.
When the oil light turns on
The engine oil light will illuminate on the dashboard if the oil pressure in your MINI is beginning to get low. If you see this light — which is a red oil lantern — it’s time to have your oil changed to bring your engine back to the proper level.
When you hear engine noise
Over time, your oil will lose its ability to properly lubricate the moving parts of the engine. Once this happens, you’ll begin to hear grinding or “knocking” noises coming from under the hood. If you start to hear anything unusual while you drive, it may be time for a fresh batch of oil.
When the oil turns dark in color
Fresh oil has an amber color to it and is slightly translucent. Over time, it darkens into black and appears thicker. About once per month, remove the dipstick, wipe it off and stick it back in. Remove it a second time and check the color and thickness. A good indication is if you can’t see the dipstick through a layer of oil, it may be time for an oil change.
